Special Instruction
In addition to our extensive martial arts instruction we also provide lessons to the general public with more specific purpose and benefit to class attendees. These special classes include:
Women's Self Defense
Our Women's Self Defense class provides a practical and effective defense strategy for women of all ages. Classes provide eight hours of instruction spread over a four month period for one low price. Throughout this period you will learn:
How to be street smart and how to reduce your risk of being attacked.
How to plan ahead so you are prepared should you need to defend yourself
Fundamental escape methods
Effective striking strategies
Self-defense techniques
Each class is two hours in duration to provide ample time for instruction, practice, and feedback in a relaxed and energetic environment. For a low fee of only $50.00 you can attend four of these two hour classes. No two classes are the same and each is packed with practical, effective, and insightful ways in which you can help ensure your own personal protection and safety.
Children's Self Defense
This program is similar to the women's self defense classes, but is tailored to the needs, strengths, capabilities, and skills of children. Children are not adults and can not confront and defend against an adult attacker in the way that another adult might defend his or her self. As a result, children have special self-defense needs and require instruction that addresses how to handle a confrontational situation with a larger child or adult.
These classes focus on how children can avoid risky behaviors and circumstances, how to recognize and escape from a bad situation, how to seek assistance from others, and what to do if none of the above prove effective. For the same fee of $50.00 children can attend four two hour classes where they are taught situational awareness, escape strategies, resource awareness, and effective methods of self-defense.
Interdisciplinary Forum
Martial artists often become so focused on their specific discipline or branch of the martial arts that they become intolerant of other styles. Unfortunately this leads to the incorrect assumption that other martial art styles are bad, ineffective, or inferior. It is easy to see how this can occur if you live, work, and breath only one style of martial arts. You naturally begin to believe that what you have learned is the best alternative to all other systems.
In truth, no system or style can teach every martial arts concept, technique, idea, or strategy. Each style offers its own unique perspective and skills that can help enrich your understanding of both new methodologies and your existing system. That's why so many great martial artists have actually acquired training in multiple martial arts.
To allow students from all systems an opportunity to gain insight and learn some effective skills from other systems we offer an Interdisciplinary Forum. Instructors from other styles and systems are encouraged to sign up to instruct in these forums. You will be asked to teach one evening every few months to introduce some of the fundamental concepts, methods, strategies, and skills endemic to your system. There is no fee for instructors who wish to introduce their systems to a wider audience.
Students from any system may register to attend these forums. The forums typically meet once each month and provide a mixture of ideas and skills from a variety of different martial arts systems. This is an excellent way to develop a deeper and broader understanding of both other martial arts styles and your own training. For a very modest fee of only $50.00 you may attend four different two hour forum sessions.
