Kick Boxing Class
The Kick Boxing class helps students develop essential boxing and fighting skills that can only be achieved through sparring practice and instruction. These classes involve fighting skills development, conditioning, sparring drills and full-contact strikes with the feet and hands during practice matches.
As intimidating as this may sound to some, instructors bring newer students along slowly so they are not pressed into full contact fighting at the onset. Students progress through a series of steps that allow them to develop essential skills and strategies to ultimately become comfortable with full contact sparring. As students become comfortable with any stage of development they are introduced to the next stage and in this manner slowly learn that sparring is not as bewildering and threatening as they may have once thought.
We teach two different forms of fighting. These are full contact fighting and Kumite or Point Fighting. Each style teaches a somewhat different set of skills and lessons that can prove beneficial during sparring and in real life encounters. While students tend to develop an affinity for one style or the other over time, students are wise to keep an open mind and derive maximum benefit from being proficient in both forms of sparring.
Students who attend the Kick Boxing class must have the following mandatory equipment:
Well-fitting headgear
Mouthpiece
Sparring Gloves (14 oz. or greater) and hand wraps
Kumite Gloves (open fingers and palms)
Groin Protection (supporter and cup for males, padding for females)
Foot Pads
Chest Protector
Optionally students may elect to bring shin guards, elbow and knee pads, forearm guards or other protective gear.
